Jim Cummings & PJ McCabe on The Beta Test - Writing, Directing, Editing, and Starring together in your Indie Film.

October 19, 2021

Today on the show, Giles Alderson and co-host Dom Lenoir welcome writer, director and actor duo Jim Cummings (Thunder Road) & PJ McCabe to talk about their latest indie feature, The Beta Test (2021).

After working together on the studio film The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020), they talk about the differences between indie and studio films. They also discuss what it’s like to direct and act at the same time, why film festivals matter, and how to make your day on set.

And obviously, they dive deep into the making of The Beta Test. Not only do they talk about how they got the funding, but also about references, lenses, and how Jim edited the movie at home and how he sound-mixed it using Adobe Audition.

It was our first in-person interview since the beginning of the pandemic. We had an absolute blast talking to Jim & PJ. So we hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!

Sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode with Jim Cummings & PJ McCabe.

From Indie Film to TV Producing for HBO with Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto

From Indie Film to TV Producing for HBO with Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto

August 17, 2021

Today on the show, Giles Alderson and co-host Dom Lenoir welcome producer Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto. His credits include Last Passenger (2013), City of Tiny Lights (2016), starring Oscar-nominee Riz Ahmed, The Pale Horse (2020), and the new Channel 4 TV Mini-Series Deceit (2021) with Niamh Algar, Eddie Marsan, Nathaniel Martello-White, and many more.

Ado dives deep into his journey from Indie Film to TV producing. He talks about how Deceit came about, what to consider when making a true-crime drama, and what it was like to produce a TV show during the pandemic.

He also discusses his process when starting a new project as a TV producer as well as his process of finding a director, what it’s like to work for HBO, and the difference between producing in the UK and the US.

We met Ado as an Indie Film Producer about two years ago at our MakeYourFilm Event and it’s amazing what he has achieved since then. He is a true inspiration. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s masterclass on producing with Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto.

Deceit is out NOW!
Gripping four-part drama, starring Niamh Algar, based on the true story of a controversial honeytrap at the heart of the 1992 police investigation into the murder of a young mother in London.
