Today on the show, Giles Alderson and co-host Tobias Vees welcome the amazing writer-director JP Watts to talk about his debut feature film, The War Below (2021).
During World War I, a group of British miners are recruited to tunnel underneath no man’s land and set bombs from below the German front in hopes of breaking the deadly stalemate of the Battle of Messines.
JP talks about how the movie came about, how he co-wrote the film, how he got producers on board, and why connections in the film industry are vitally important. He discusses how he directs actors, how he collaborates with his DOP, and the importance of a good casting agent and a good crew. He also dives deep into VFX, how he did it and what you should know.

Today on the show, Giles Alderson and co-host Dom Lenoir welcome writer, director and actor duo Jim Cummings (Thunder Road) & PJ McCabe to talk about their latest indie feature, The Beta Test (2021).
After working together on the studio film The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020), they talk about the differences between indie and studio films. They also discuss what it’s like to direct and act at the same time, why film festivals matter, and how to make your day on set.
And obviously, they dive deep into the making of The Beta Test. Not only do they talk about how they got the funding, but also about references, lenses, and how Jim edited the movie at home and how he sound-mixed it using Adobe Audition.
It was our first in-person interview since the beginning of the pandemic. We had an absolute blast talking to Jim & PJ. So we hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!

They also talk about how they put all the footage together, where they got their archive footage from, and share all of the various worries that they had while working on this documentary for 8 years.

Alex dives deep into Clubhouse of Horror, what the room is about, what it’s like to be a judge on the latest competition, and not just what you need to do to get your horror short script financed, but also how to make an ace short.
Coming from documentaries, he discusses how he made his first narrative short Conducter (2018), the importance of a one-line pitch, and how he turned his short into a feature.
Giles, Lucinda and Alex also talk about the importance of mental health on set, how to deal with overtime, why nerves are good, directing techniques, distribution, and why you need a good lawyer.

Navot dives deep into the making of Gunpowder Milkshake, how he got these fantastic names attached, what it was like to work with them, and the importance of an easy-to-read script.
He also talks about his first two features Kalevet (2011), which got into over a hundred film festivals, and Big Bad Wolves (2013), as well as about his influences, his writing routine, and why you should try to see a movie a day.

Today on the show, Giles Alderson and co-host Dom Lenoir welcome producer & director Jay Silverman to talk about his latest feature film Saving Paradise (2021), starring William Moseley, Johanna Braddy, Mimi Kennedy and many more.
Jay dives deep into what it’s like to live and work in Hollywood. Not only does he talk about how he made his latest feature, Saving Paradise, but also how he went from doing the show The Cleaner (2008-2009) to his first two feature films, Girl on the Edge (2015) and Off the Menu (2018).
He also talks about directing, how he built his own sound stage, the importance of pre-production, his distribution plan as well as his business model – how he makes profits with his movies to make new ones.
