This week we are joined by the team behind brilliant indie film Lancaster Skies. Giles Alderson (The Dare, World of Darkness) sits down with director Callum Burn, Producer Andy Burn, Cinematographer Sam Parsons and actor Kris Saddler to chat how they made their World War II epic
We talk about their backgrounds, how they became filmmakers and their journey to Lancaster Skies
We chat how what it is like working with your father and son on indie films. How Callum, Andy and Sam wrote the script together
We ask Andy what makes a good producer and why they shot Lancaster skies in 5 blocks and all for only £80k. How they built miniatures and the the inside of a spitfire to create the look they wanted .
How when they had problems the answers were always 'make it simple'. And if you build your own sets and make your own world you have so much more control and can save money.
We talk to Sam about having very little money for lights. And how to use the budget in the best way you can to light the scene.
We chat how they raised the investment money to make the film through any which way they could. How the budget limited then but also made them think out of the box.
How it is important that all filmmakers have to step up to be a film business and make the film to sell and how you can actually make money .
We chat with Kris about his acting thoughts and how It took four years to make the film and over that time they built up the fan base on social media and held open days to bring people into and believing in the project
And we find out that Callum has to redo all the sound with ADR and did the sound Foley in his bedroom which as you can imagine took forever

This week Giles Alderson (The Dare, World of Darkness) is joined by screenwriter and director Stephanie McBain who talks about her journey into making her debut feature Roads, Trees and Honey Bees and how she raised the money on credit and worked two jobs while doing it.
We chat with the inspiring Stephanie about how she started off acting and moved to directing after switching courses and having to prep but not make a short as part of her course but after a chance conversation how her friend said she would produce it for her and she went out and actually made it.
We chat about how she writes about what she knows and her process behind it and how that led on to wanting to make her debut feature without waiting for something to happen. So she sacrificed nights out and worked two jobs while earning enough money to get it made and how it was so hard to write it after coming home from work
We talk casting and what should an actor do in a casting and why you might get cast or not .
How the first day on set was embarrassing. How an actor pulled out the day before and only filmed 5/8ths of a page on that first day
We talk how having a mentor is so important in the film business and how she got distribution for the film and got it out for people to see.
And how she has made her second feature A Kiss on Candy Kane Lane on two weeks notice and even worked her job during the filming the schedule.

Giles Alderson (The Dare, World of Darkness) sits down with director, writer and producer Tom Paton to chat how he made his films, Pandorica, Redwood, Black Site, Stairs and G-Loc and how important it is to have a business head on as a filmmaker.

On the podcast this week we chat with Tom Paton about how he went from a Club Rep in Cyprus to becoming a Filmmaker and how he started with no real knowledge of cameras or production.
How he self taught himself film-making and learnt to edit and understand VFX and graphics because he has no choice.
How he didn't want to make a short but a feature first and how he raised finance using his background in selling to secure investment .
for his first feature - Pandorica, shot at night in outdoor locations - high sensitivity camera used, in combination with DIY space lights to shoot a post-apocalyptic forest setting.
How he pushed on after his first feature onto his second feature - Redwood, which was a bigger budget, vampire film set in eastern Europe and the lessons he learnt from first feature he carried over to second feature.
His third film Black Site, out later this year, is a back to his roots, lower budget, exploitation John Carpenter-esque horror thriller.
We discuss what actors look for in a director - and vice versa and producing your own work - and find good collaborators.
We discuss his fourth film - Stairs and his 5th feature G-Lock which are both now in post
And we delve into his screenwriting process - from script to shoot
PLUS loads of advice for filmmakers new and old

The wonderful and highly talented and fun director, writer and VFX superstar Hasraf 'Haz' Dulull sat down with Giles Alderson and Robbie McKane to chat how he went from VFX work on The Dark Knight to making his own films 'The Beyond' and '2036 Origin Unknown' and his TV show Fast Layne.
We chat about his star in video games making cut scene graphics in an autonomous self-starting role. How he moved into the VFX film industry - specialised in compositing (combining different VFX elements into the final film) and pioneered the use of Shake and Combustible applications
How he worked on studio films culmulating in The Dark Knight for Christopher Nolan where a custom version of Shake was used to accommodate the 5K IMAX film
How he worked on commercials in VFX - moved up the rungs to lead compositor then VFX supervisor and As VFX supervisor was able to get a good perspective of production - began to work as a 'shadow director' on some CG sequences in documentary work.
We discuss how he began working on short films and building his own team where he gathered attention for his shorts in Cannes, developed relationships with Paramount and Fox for screenwriting and developing projects.
How he put is own money he had planned to buy a house on the line for his first feature - The Beyond, based on his successful short Project Cronos.
Used caché from The Beyond to push his next feature '2036 Origin Unknown' over the line and then used both of those features to pitch for Fast Layne a VFX heavy Disney TV series

Jim Cummings joins Giles Alderson (The Dare) and Christian James (Fanged Up) to talk about his debut feature film Thunder Road.
Jim wrote, directed and starred in the film which was developed from his short film of the same name which won the grand Jury prize in Sundance.
He tells us about his journey from making shorts as a producer to doing it yourself, where the idea for Thunder Road came from and how he ended up the lead in his own short and subsequent feature film.
Thunder Road is a hilarious tragi-comedy which follows the life of Jim, a police officer on the verge of a mental breakdown following the death of his mother and the breakdown of his marriage. Thunder Road is released i the UK on Friday 31st May
Having self-funded the film via Kickstarter, it’s a testament to independent film-making and is a real passion project for Jim. The film also has lots of interesting angles to explore such as how it has had the seal of approval from Bruce Springsteen whose song it is named after, how it deals with topical mental health including the stigma around men being able to show emotion and it’s comment on the current state of the American police force.
