Today, we’re back with a regular episode. And yet this episode couldn’t be any better as our host Giles Alderson welcomes producer/writer/director Christin Baker to the show. She is also the co-founder of the Emmy-nominated streaming platform Tello, which focuses on stories for the lesbian/queer community. Their 2017 series “Secs & EXECS” earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Austin Powers actress Mindy Sterling. Also, in 2019, their series Riley Parra received two Emmy nominations for actresses Liz Vassey and Carolyn Ratteray.
The SVOD platform has a wide library of the best LGBTQ+ women's titles and thousands of paid subscribers. The majority of their million-dollar revenue goes back to filmmakers, enabling them to make more shows. Christin has been playing with video production and storytelling since she was 13 after her family got their first VHS camcorder.
In 2016, she was awarded Best Director at the London Raindance Film Festival for her work on Maybelle, a series that follows the story of a 35-year old gay woman in the south after the death of her mother.
Over the last four years, as an indie producer, she has made five features on SAG Ultra Low Budgets, but she believes the storytelling quality is as high as anything on Netflix.
In her conversation with Giles, Christin chats about:
- finding investors
- crowdfunding
- turning a web series into a feature film
- setting up her streaming platform Tello
- making LGTBQ+ films
- directing feature films
- sales agents
- predatory distributors
- Cannes
Christin was very insightful about her process. This episode is an absolute masterclass in production and distribution – a must-hear for any filmmaker working in the independent world. So, sit back, relax and listen to our amazing chat with the fantastic Christin Baker.

Today, our host Giles Alderson welcomes a very special person to the podcast: The man who greenlit his debut feature film, Yariv Lerner. Now, not only does Yariv run Nu Boyana Film Studios, the biggest film studio in Eastern Europe, but he is also the executive producer or producer of films like Hitman's Bodyguard (2017), Acts of Vengeance (2017), Hellboy – Call of Darkness (2019), The Dare (2019), Angel Has Fallen (2019), Rambo: Last Blood (2019), and Expend4bles (2023).
As you can see, Yariv is an amazing guy. And he was so kind enough to sit down and talk about what it’s like to run a studio, what he wants from a writer or director, the difference between producing & exec producing, and what made him decide to make The Dare. He also discusses how to handle difficult situations on set, when to step in as a producer, but also when to step back. Lastly, he presents Film Forge, his new training program, which you can join today.
This episode is a must-hear. You don’t want to miss this. So sit back, relax and listen to this week’s episode with the amazing Yariv Lerner.

She talks about the difference between shooting a feature film vs a TV show, how she picks her crew, whether she keeps up with new tech, filter, grain, the balance of getting everything in camera or leaving something for post, as well as how she deals with difficult or misogynistic people on set.
And she discusses her work on The Rookie, her workflow, prepping for 4 cameras, how many days of prep and how many shooting days she had and how she maintained the look of the show while putting her own touch to it.
What are you waiting for, lovely listener? This is the masterclass you have been waiting for. So sit back, relax and listen to this week’s episode with the amazing Johanna Coelho.

This week, we have two more filmmaking legends for you on the show: Producer Jhane Myers & director Dan Trachtenberg!
Jhane has worked on movies like Apocalypto (2006), The Lone Ranger (2013), and Wind River (2017), and today she’s here to chat with our hosts, Giles Alderson and Dom Lenoir, all about the Predator-prequel Prey: She talks about how she turned Marvel down to get on board as well as her involvement on the script and on set.
Dan, on the other hand, talks about how he thought about making this film for over 30 years and how he prepped the film. He also discusses his workflow with his DOP, shot lists, action, one-takes and the importance of good locations.
We had an absolute blast chatting with these two brilliant filmmakers. You’ll love this. We promise. So, sit back, relax and listen to this week’s episode with Jhane Myers & Dan Trachtenberg.
PREY is out on the 5th of August!
The origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.
